Featuring a large display, a solid battery life, and 5G capabilities, this phone caters to individuals seeking modern functionalities without a hefty price tag. I have used this device for some time now, and here’s my assessment of its strengths, weaknesses, and whether it’s a smart purchase.

To begin with, let's discuss the design. The Redmi 13c 5G has an appealing look for a budget-friendly device. It has a sleek and flat body, measuring only 8. 09mm in thickness, and weighs 192 grams. It feels light, but the sharp corners may press into your hand if held for an extended period. The rear has a glossy finish resembling glass with a sparkling “Star Trail” design that glimmers in the light. It is available in three colors: Startrail Green, Startrail Silver, and Starlight Black. Personally, I prefer the Green option—it’s vibrant and lively. The phone feels sturdy, despite being constructed from plastic. On the top side, you'll find a headphone jack, while a USB-C port is located at the bottom, and a responsive fingerprint sensor is situated on the side.

Moving on to the display, it boasts a large 6. 74-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution (1600 x 720 pixels). While it isn’t the sharpest—tiny pixels may be visible upon close inspection—it offers sufficient brightness, reaching up to 600 nits. This makes it workable outdoors, although direct bright sunlight may be challenging. With a 90Hz refresh rate, user interactions like scrolling and animations are smooth, which is commendable for a budget device. Watching videos or navigating social media feels pleasant, but don’t expect the rich colors seen in higher-end phones with AMOLED displays. Additionally, it has TUV certifications for low blue light and no flicker, providing comfort for your eyes.

Internally, the Redmi 13c 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor. While it may not be the quickest, it manages everyday activities adequately—such as calling, texting, using WhatsApp, watching YouTube, and playing light games like Subway Surfers. I tested Call of Duty: Mobile at low settings, and it performed well with minimal lag. The device remains cool during usage, which is a positive feature. You can choose from configurations with 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. A microSD card slot is also included, allowing expansion up to 1TB. The device operates on MIUI 14, which is based on Android 13, but it does come bundled with ads and additional apps that may be undesirable. This can be frustrating.

The camera has its pros and cons. The main 50MP sensor captures reasonable photos during the day—colors pop, and the details are fair for what you pay. However, in darker settings, the images become grainy and unclear. There’s also a 2MP macro lens available for close-up photography, though it isn’t very effective. The third lens serves only for creating depth, not for actual photography. The front camera, at 5MP, is quite basic—selfies are decent in well-lit conditions but appear fuzzy in low lighting. It features a soft-light ring that can assist with night-time selfies, which is a nice addition. Overall, the camera is satisfactory for everyday use but not suitable for professional photography.

However, the charging speed is slow. While it allows for 18W fast charging, the package only includes a 10W charger. Consequently, it requires over two hours for a full charge, which seems outdated in 2025. If you opt for a quicker charger, that would improve the situation.

It’s an ideal choice for students, those using smartphones for the first time, or anyone wanting affordable 5G. Yet, there are drawbacks: the display isn't full HD, the camera underperforms in low light, charging is slow, and the software contains advertisements. Its counterpart, the Redmi 12 5G, is slightly pricier (around ₹12,000) and features a better processor along with faster charging, which could make it worth the additional expense.

In summary, the Redmi 13c 5G is a good selection if you’re looking for an economical 5G smartphone that covers the essentials. It isn’t flawless, but it offers more than you might anticipate for the price. If you’re fine with its limitations, it’s a smart choice for your budget.
